How do I fill out a PDF form on my iPad?

We offer application data sheets that can be filled out and submitted through e-mail on your iPad.

See the tutorial on our website for instructions and screenshots.

Apple’s default PDF viewer on the iPad doesn’t let you fill out a form.  It displays the PDF as a flat image and doesn’t recognize that fields exist.  The free Adobe Reader app for iPad allows you to fill out the fields in a form and print the form with your data, but when you e-mail the form it does not embed your data in the PDF so the recipient ends up with a blank document.

One PDF app for iPad that we have found to work is PDF Expert.  PDF Expert, a paid app in the App Store, allows you to fill out forms on your iPad.  You can then e-mail the form as a flattened PDF with your data embedded.

See the full tutorial with screenshots here.

This approach certainly works with our application data sheets, but can also be used more widely to fill out any PDF form.  And if you want to fill out a PDF that has not been created as a form with fields, you can use the annotate feature of PDF Expert to write on top of the form and then send it with the data embedded.  When using annotate features think of using a typewriter on a pre-printed form--the concepts are similar and the end result is that you are still able to submit a form that has been filled out with typed print.  See full product details and capabilities on PDF Experts' website.
