What is LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)?

FLO-CORP is a regular player in the energy industry.  Our instrumentation is used broadly across the refining and transport of gas and oil, along with many other fuels.  One product that our process instrumentation measures is Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

What is LNG?

Wikipedia says, "Liquefied natural gas or LNG is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4) that has been converted to liquid form for ease of storage or transport."

"Liquefied natural gas takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state. It is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive."

It's helpful to have a text book definition; however, how does all that really work?

As you can see, LNG does contribute significantly to the ease of storage and transport of natural gas.

Flow Meters for the Oil & Gas Industry

Flow Research released an excellent article titled, Part 1: The Role of Oil & Natural Gas, Flow measurement opportunities in the increasingly complicated global energy market on January 31, 2013.

When I read that article today, I wanted to share it with you because it is an interesting discussion of energy.  In the section, Implications for Flowmeters, Dr. Yoder discusses several technologies in use in the industry.  FLO-CORP offers several of these technologies including Coriolis Mass Flow, Turbine, Positive Displacement, and Ultrasonic*.
